The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) staff physician independently provides clinical Physiatric services to eligible Veterans. Services are provided at the Hampton VA Medical Center. The incumbent is required to interact not only with the Veteran but also family, significant others, community agencies, and other staff. The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician provides physiatry services as specified within their clinical privileges. Responsibilities include providing patient care in the PMRS setting which includes the clinical outpatient area, subacute, and the inpatient setting as needed. Services include new patient consultation, established (follow up) visits, EMG, BOTOX, Medication Assisted Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder, and credentialed pain management procedures. Other duties include but aren't limited to: Provides support to the Pain Management and Polytrauma programs which includes training of providers within the Medical Center on various aspects of assessment and management of care for multiple diagnoses related to the specialty of physical medicine and pain. Supports PMRS physician consults, amputee clinic, brace clinic, Pain and Polytrauma programs. Provides patient with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and securing the informed consent of the patient/family needed before conducting invasive procedures. Evaluates the patient to assess any changes in the physical status, and make recommendations for continue care as needed. Provides recommendations and work with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care to provide optimal functioning, level of pain, and quality of life for Veterans.
