Nurse - Veterans Integrated Referral System (VIRS) / Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM)

There are currently two vacancies for a Veterans Integrated Referral System (VIRS) RN and one vacancy for a Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) RN. The VIRS RN coordinates transfers of veterans out of community care hospitals into VA facilities. Duties include but are not limited to: Transfers of veterans with mental health crisis from Emergency departments to VA mental health units and coordinating care for long term rehab and other hospitalizations. The care covers Washington, Idaho and Oregon catchment. Attends daily huddle calls with the VISN coordinators and tracks emergency room admissions. Assists with discharge planning of veterans in community EDs and hospitals. The SPHM RN serves as the facility champion for patient care involving lifting, turning, transporting veterans with mobility issues. Duties include but are not limited to: Assess the facility for areas of patient care where employees can be injured while assisting to move patients into and out of the care area, assist the staff to identify needs of equipment to safely lift and move patients and care for them in the various areas of the facility. Identifies unit peer leaders and educates staff on the use of patient handling and movement equipment and identifies areas of need for future purchases of equipment. Assists with annual and ongoing competencies for staff and attends SPHM national conference calls and those by the VISN POCs. Occasional travel. Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 11 paid Federal holidays per year.
