This position supplies direct nursing support to the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP) at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center, Walla Walla, WA. The staff nurse serves to assist in development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures, and guidelines of the MHRRTP Behavioral Health Program. Duties include but not limited to: Promotes excellence in customer service and attempts to resolve issues at the unit level. Receives and communicates change of shift report. Delegates nursing duties appropriate to licensure, performance standards, grade level, and experience. Completes the appropriate nursing process, following nursing standards of care for every resident in the Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (SARRTP) and Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (PRRTP). Ensures documentation is accurate, complete, and timely. Functions as Case Manager, creating individualized plans for SARRTP and PRRTP residents, coordinating nursing care, and identifying barriers to education. Identifies and prioritizes residents' problems and needs. Continues ongoing assessments required re-assessments, and addresses any changes. Documents when resident conditions change, their response to interventions and treatments. Sets measurable goals, objectives, and outcomes with the resident, utilizing the mental health suite. Presents residents for review at expanded team meetings. Provides resident/family education based on the identified needs and problems assessed. Completes transfers and/or discharge summaries. Validates and ensures assigned residents have advance directives. Monitors the therapeutic milieu, maintain a safe respectful environment of interaction between residents of various programs. Communicates with Primary Mental Health Provider, Medical staff, Addiction Therapists, Psychosocial Education (PSE) staff, family or significant other, and VA Police as needed to facilitate care and safety. Communicates to charge nurse or appropriate other personnel potential situations in which a resident may be a danger to self or others. Ensures direct care staff provide safe and appropriate care. Follows local policies. Maintains confidentiality regarding patients in SARRTP and PRRTP Work Schedule: Intermittent Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 11 paid Federal holidays per year.
