The VA Medical Center located at Tucson Arizona is the "Flagship" for the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS), which serves over 170,000 veterans located in eight counties in Southern Arizona and one county in Western New Mexico. This 295-bed hospital provides training, primary care and sub-specialty health care in numerous medical areas for eligible Veterans. SAVAHCS is seeking a general surgeon with additional training or certification in surgical oncology and/or hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) surgery. The candidate must also have advanced gastrointestinal experience, including open and minimally invasive major abdominal operations. Duties will include all aspects of general surgery along with advanced gastrointestinal and HPB surgery. A record of teaching and research experience is advantageous. Responsibilities will encompass surgical outpatient clinics, consultation, admission, and perioperative care of surgical patients. Advanced endoscopic and laparoscopic skill sets are required, robotic skill sets desirable. Candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven clinical capability. Board certification in general surgery is highly preferred. Position requires call coverage, resident teaching, and participation in quality improvement processes. Applicant must have experience in utilization of an electronic medical record. Applicant will have demonstrated experience in the supervision and teaching of surgical residents. SAVAHCS is an active teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Arizona. Qualified candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of Arizona based upon qualifications and experience. The selected candidate must hold an active clear state medical license to provide patient-centered care to veterans.
