The Telehealth Clinical Technician serves in a generalist role to support and manage telehealth clinical encounters from the patient and provider location as the site Tele-presenter, imager for telehealth store and forward applications, clinic manager for real time telehealth events, including patient education activities, provision of equipment for the HT program, technical and scheduling activities. Duties include, but are not limited to: Tele-presenter Responsible for the patient site clinical, business, scheduling, and technical aspects for real-time telehealth applications. Provides advanced clinical technology information to patients, staff, and providers regarding Telehealth, Education and Training processes. Opens the telehealth patient room, readies the equipment for the examination, training, education, access, and establishes the online, video conferencing or other connections. Creates the appropriate clinical and/or training setting/environment using interactive technology. Coordinates information between facilities to expedite patient telehealth modality (SFT, HT, VVC and CVT) to access, promote and ensure maximum of continuity of care. Synchronizes telehealth modalities with medical staff, patients, facilities, telehealth services, and emergency services. Schedules, confirms, and coordinates telehealth services of inpatients and outpatients to/from VISN to VISN, Facility to Facility, CBOC to CBOC etc. and private facilities including nursing homes, hospitals, and clinics. Telehealth Imager Performs telehealth imaging, including tele-retinal screening, tele-dermatology, tele-wound care imaging and other telehealth programming as technology becomes available, as identified, and referred by the primary care provider, other providers, and the imager. The imager will provide patient education regarding the imaging process. Imagers may identify and access patients via VISN data systems. The imager will generate a consult and appropriately appoint the patients. Images will, be obtained using approved imaging devices. For other and emerging technology, the imager will follow manufacturer instructions and work with the local and national program office as appropriate to ensure quality and safety. Assists with the screening of patients to identify and schedule patients for digital imaging. Telehealth Ancillary Duties Assists in patient care under the direct supervision of an independent licensed healthcare provider. Follows established procedures using manual or instrument techniques in accordance with established protocols, and reports results to appropriate individuals. Conducts quality control procedures on equipment and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports and workload reporting. Demonstrates knowledge of mechanics and functioning, inventory, maintenance, replacement, deployment, and management of all equipment in the HT, SFT, VVC, and CVT technology. Determines technical factors, sets controls, and operates equipment and instruments. Sets up and adjusts specialized clinical computers, cameras, and other equipment with multiple features arid precision metrics. Provides general clerical/administrative support coordination work for the unit. Manages administrative functions for the office. Receives all telephone calls and visitors to the clinic. Manages medical support functions for clinic or practice. Monitors patient scheduling, tests receipts and controls, equipment scheduling and maintenance of levels for specialized supplies. Responds to inquiries from patients, family members and caregivers. Observation, Reporting and, Documentation Identifies subtle changes in patient condition, both physical and emotional. Demonstrates practical knowledge of human behavior, motivation, and reactions to situations. Utilizes teaching materials to promote self-reliance and independence including methods to prevent complications and facilitate recovery. Clearly and thoroughly records significant observations and actions on appropriate forms. Completes required patient care documentation and records significant observations and actions utilizing the nursing process in a clear and concise manner. Maintaining a safe and Therapeutic Environment Maintains a safe, clean, therapeutic environment and adheres to infection control guidelines. Prevents injury to self and others by complying with established safety procedures and uses proper body mechanics and transfer techniques. Participates in accomplishing with maintenance tasks which includes checking equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely. Practices aseptic techniques during sterile procedures. Demonstrates safe work habits, identifies, and immediately reports any unsafe conditions to the supervisor. Identifies any life-threatening environmental hazards immediately, takes appropriate action and reports findings to the supervisor.
