The Thoracic Surgery staff physician independently provides services to eligible veterans. Services are provided at the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS) in Aurora, CO to both inpatients and outpatients. The incumbent is required to interact not only with the veteran, but also family, significant others, community agencies, and other staff. Major Duties: Clinical: (80% of effort) The majority of time worked by the non-cardiac thoracic surgeon will be providing clinical care. The non-cardiac thoracic surgeon is responsible for delivering high quality clinic and surgical care within their surgical specialty. Care will be provided in clinic, the operating room, the inpatient setting and the minor procedure rooms. The non-cardiac thoracic surgeon will foster and promote interdisciplinary clinical care processes. Administrative: (10% of effort) The non-cardiac thoracic surgeon is responsible for participating in surgical section's morbidity and mortality conference, participating in quality improvement projects, participating in efficiency and productivity projects, participating in surgical sections meetings, participating in Surgical Service's service-wide meetings, participating in inter-disciplinary care processes, and participating in organizational committees and clinical care optimization processes. Education: (10% of effort) The Eastern Colorado VA Healthcare System is an affiliate VA Medical Center with the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Educating the post-graduate residents, medical students and other trainees on the surgical section is an important component of each Staff Surgeon's role.
