The staff Hospitalist Physician is board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or an ABIM Subspecialty. Duties include clinical supervision responsibilities for medical inpatient care. The incumbent would work in conjunction with other members of the Hospitalist team to provide evidence based patient- centered care to our Veterans and helps to lead daily patient care rounds and discharge planning with members of the interdisciplinary team. The staff Hospitalist demonstrates sound decision making skills in both clinical and administrative areas. In addition, the incumbent serves as a preceptor to Residents, Medical Students and Fellows in his or her specialty area. The Staff Physician Hospitalist shall have a faculty appointment with UCSF Fresno in order to provide supervision and teaching to medical residents and students. The Physician collaborates, guides, and supports nurse practitioners assigned to Medicine Service in their respective areas of expertise as appropriate. Administrative duties may include serving as the Acting Chief of Medicine Service in the absence of the Chief of the Medicine Service. Participates in and attends medical center committees and meetings as assigned by the Chief of the Medicine Service. Participates in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, such as Quality Improvement (CQI) or System Redesign projects, as assigned by the Chief of Medicine Service. The Physician demonstrates commitment to high quality customer service, including specific measures identified as performance goals by the medical center. Practices independently, using professional judgment and expertise to make decisions about services and treatment provided to veterans. Incumbent is given authority to make his/her own work assignments within the program area to which assigned. Consults with the supervisor as needed and with colleagues to develop knowledge and apply VHA policies and practices to new matters. His/her work is reviewed for technical adequacy and conformance with procedures and practices applicable to the subject. Uses initiative and resourcefulness in deviating from traditional methods or trends and patterns to develop new methods, criteria, and proposed new policies. Practices at an advanced level and independently gathers relevant information to guide practice. Participates and is responsible for ongoing professional performance evaluations in collaboration with the chief of medicine service this includes OPPE/FPE. The staff Physician Hospitalist will have an annual performance evaluation in accordance with current policies. The incumbent is expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease.
