This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2022, or until all vacancies are filled. The first group of eligible applicants will be reviewed July 8, 2022. Subsequent reviews will be conducted periodically until all positions are filled. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications minimum 1 year critical care experience Cardiac Cath Lab / Interventional Radiology experience highly preferred must be able to meet 30 minute window to report to facility during emergency activation RCIS certification preferred (Cardiac Cath Lab) Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. The incumbent who provides care in home settings or other off-site locations may be required to drive and/or ride in GSA-vehicles ["The RN (Cardiac Cath Lab) position provides care to veterans at the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Health Care System (OKCVAHCS). OKCVAHCS is a Level 1b major interdisciplinary teaching facility with service-lines serving medical, surgical, and neurological inpatients and outpatients, with a Level III Emergency Department, and multiple community-based outpatient clinics (CBOC).\nThe RN (Cardiac Cath Lab) responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving patient care on the unit, at the service level, and across the facility. Manage complex patient situations and acts as an expert in the area of Cardiac Cath Lab Provides organized and efficient patient care. Looks beyond their individual assignment to address concerns and issues occurring on the unit, within the service, and across the facility. Ability to manage multiple competing priorities successfully. Demonstration of Accurate and Timely documentation of patient care according to the Standards for Cardiac Cath Lab patients. Ability to demonstrate understanding of, compliance with, and ability to educate others on patient safety guidelines, accrediting body guidelines, VHA Directives and Facility Center Memorandums that pertain to Cardiac Cath Lab and direct patient care. Ability to demonstrate understanding of facility SAIL metrics that can be influenced by care provided in the Cardiac Cath Lab and ability to use facility SAIL metrics as a basis of determining process improvement initiatives and measurement. Ability to demonstrate active leadership and participation in customer service improvement processes and initiatives in the Cardiac Cath Lab. Using advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision making and evaluating outcomes. Consistently demonstrates effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers, team members, and supervisors. Notifies the nurse manager of any safety incidents, employee injuries, or concerns of team members not providing care according to the appropriate Standards of Care. Attend monthly staff meetings and unit specific education. Assist with all non-supervisory operations on the unit in the absence of Charge Nurse or Nursing Leadership and involve the Acting Supervisor for supervisory issues. Serves as a mentor to new Cardiac Cath Lab RNs. Provides feedback of new employee's progress to nurse manager Serves as a preceptor for nursing students. Providing feedback to the student, faculty, and nurse manager regarding students' progress. Active participant in the students learning process. Maintains a professional and respectful attitude towards patients, families, and co-workers. Understands the facility staffing model and the need to adjust staffing according to the needs of the Cardiac Cath Lab. Floats to other units when asked by Nursing Leadership. Self-Directed to ensure that they have been oriented to unit and have competencies for unit, and if this is not the case, notifies nursing leadership immediately. When functioning as Team Lead, ability to adjust staffing according to the needs of the Cardiac Cath Lab, this includes floating staff to assist other units and cancelling scheduled overtime when not needed, and addressing future staffing needs related to call-ins for sick leave or emergency annual leave. Assign staff (when functioning as the Charge Nurse) and assist to clean/check for outdates/ensure unit is in compliance with all national directives and accrediting agency guidelines, follow-up on any areas of concern Clinical Champions for service specific projects. Provide nurse manager with monthly reports, documenting current data, trends, and action plans. Understands unique needs of the Cardiac Cath Lab and the patient population. Proposes needed change to nurse manager and is self-directed change agent among peers. Completes three Nurse Manager approved educational presentations to Cardiac Cath Lab staff per year. Additional duties as assigned.
