Our hospital, Hershey Medical Center, is a 610 bed Academic Medical Center with a variety of complex services, including a comprehensive cancer center, cardiovascular and heart transplant center, state of the art Women's Health and Neonatal care, nationally ranked pediatric services and Level I Pediatric and Adult Trauma programs.
Within the Department of Pathology, our laboratory team falls into two sections, Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology. Our Clinical Pathology Team is comprised of the Automated Testing Laboratory, Phlebotomy, Special Hematology, Blood Bank, Hematopoietic Cell Therapy, Microbiology and Virology, while our Anatomic Pathology Team includes Cytology, Decedent Care, Histology, Histocompatibility and Molecular Diagnostics. Together, we perform over 8.7 million tests annually that are critical for an accurate diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care for our patients.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: As the Blood Bank Laboratory Section Chief, you will have oversight of daily operations for our Blood Bank/Transfusion Service and Apheresis Department. On an annual basis, our team dispenses more than 37,000 blood products for transfusion and performs more that 1,200 therapeutic procedures and cellular therapy collections. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a talented team of technologists, technicians, lab associates and nurses, introducing new testing methodologies and instrumentation, managing interdepartmental quality projects, maintaining regulatory compliance, and more.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Laboratory Science or an applicable Health Science Field that contained clinical laboratory rotations as part of the degree requirements.
5 years of Team Lead/Supervisory experience in a laboratory setting is required.
An advanced specialty professional certification in the clinical area of interest may substitute for the years of Team Lead Supervisory experience, but a minimum of 3 years of job related experience is required (Non-Team Lead/Supervisor role).
A Master's degree in a Health Science field may substitute for one of the three years of job related experience.
An ASCP or other nationally recognized clinical laboratory certification is required
Good communication, computer and customer service skills, expert technical knowledge and skills, and knowledge of applicable regulations required
Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements. The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex: National Association Credential Evaluations Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). The applicants is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.Â
