Fred Hutch Cancer Center has a 5-year Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position available through the Cancer Prevention Program within the Public Health Sciences Division. The position will work under the direction of Dr. Salene Jones. Dr. Jones' research aims to use psychometrics and measurement science to better assess financial hardship and other social determinants of health (SDOH) primarily in medical populations and within the context of disease prevention. This research program focuses on people with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers and people with cancer including hematologic malignancies. Her work includes the use of item response theory, sometimes called modern psychometrics, to create novel methods of assessing financial hardship and other SDOHs in a way to move science and clinical care forward. Dr. Jones research combines the social and behavioral sciences with health services research and public health.

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral fellow's duties will include supporting study operations, interacting with study participants, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and disseminating results. They will work closely with Dr. Jones, co-investigators, the project manager and the project coordinator. The position will primarily support a project developing financial hardship screening measures in Alzheimer's disease but will also support projects on financial hardship in cancer. Note, this is a hybrid position meaning that some work must be performed onsite at Fred Hutch's South Lake Union campus. Some work can be performed remotely.

• Help develop and revise study materials including protocols, consent forms, recruitment materials and questionnaires
• Help program surveys for data collection
• Assist with institutional review board applications and modification
• Coordinate with patient and caregiver advisors
• Conduct eligibility assessment of potential participants including screening for cognitive dysfunction
• Conduct study interviews and focus groups
• Assist with study recruitment including preparing mailings and providing potential participants with study information
• Code interview data using qualitative analysis
• Prepare quantitative datasets for analysis
• Conduct statistical analyses using techniques such as item response theory and multi-level modeling
• Prepare presentations, posters and manuscripts
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A doctoral degree (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD, ScD or equivalent) with a strong background in psychometrics, statistics, psychology and the behavioral and social sciences
• Knowledge of and experience with psychometric analyses including classical test theory (reliability, validity) and multi-parameter item response theory (two parameter logistic, graded response model)
• Experience with statistical analysis software such as R, SPSS, and/or SAS
• Experience with primary data collection including interacting with study participants and/or patients
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Flexibility in work hours

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Have high level of initiative, attention to detail, and organizational skills
• Experience working on multiple projects concurrently
• Good communication skills including academic writing

The annual base salary range for this position is from $67,728 to $140,000 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
